All-Inclusive Costa Rica Training Camp (II edition, February 2014)
Get off your trainer and come down to the tropical Costa Rica with experienced Pro Kathyn Bertine, cyclist with Colavita-espnW, 3x National Champion, Worlds competitor, ESPN columnist and author of As Good AS Gold, Also joining us will be a “Guest Star” pro triathlete to be announced in December. While Chrissie joined us last year, we’ll finalize our 2014 Guest Star in the winter of 2013.
We are proud to announce the second edition of our Bikecr Training Camp. Last year 20 riders from triathlon and cycling joined to Kathryn Bertine and Chrissie Wellington in our first edition and now we are so excited about give the opportunity to others riders.
This training camp combines four days of road cycling, tips and advice from our pro guest stars and the awesome nature beauty of Costa Rica (volcanoes, lakes, forest, jungle, and beach)

Below the itinerary of our Bikecr All Inclusive Training Camp:
January 31th: Pick up at the airport and shuttle to the hotel located just about 15 minutes away. Dinner and speech with indications for the further days. (Hotel: http://www.orquideasinn.com/)
February 01st: Let`s wake up early and enjoy a costarican breakfast before leaving the hotel at 7:00 AM. We start our first training session at about 08:30 AM on flat terrain in the Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica. We are going to enjoy some gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean during our route that finishes in the coastal town of Jaco. Jaco is one of the most touristic towns in Costa Rica, thanks to the proximity to our Capital San Jose. We arrives our hotel in time for lunch and in afternoon we can choice either rest in the pool of the hotel or take a walk at the beach. Total distance today is 80 kms (50 miles) (Hotel: To be announced)
February 02nd : After breakfast we take a shuttle for about two hours to the town of Tilaran where we start our ride that goes all around Arenal Lake. Arenal Lake is an artificial lake created by Costarican Electricity Institute to generate hydroelectric energy by the 70´s. The views of the Lake, the Arenal Volcano, the rural landscape and the forest are awesome today. The terrain is rolling hills for a distance of 70 kms (43 miles) and the rides finishes at the slopes of the Arenal Volcano, in a hot springs resort where we are going to lunch and relax before arrive the hotel in the town of La Fortuna. February 03th: Today we start riding at La Fortuna through forest and many plantations passing many small towns of this area such as Aguas Zarcas, Venecia, San Miguel and finish at Puerto Viejo Sarapiqui, one small town in the middle of the Caribbean rainforest. Today’s terrain is mainly flat and the ride finishes at Puerto Viejo Sarapiqui.
The natural beauty and biodiversity of the area of Sarapiqui, situated in the Caribbean lowlands, makes it a favorite site for ecotourists and birdwatchers.
On this day, we have a couple of group activities planned: first we are going to be involved in a charity cause where our company and the campers are going to be helping this community. (One amount from your registration fee goes directly to this charity project) Later we have in our schedule one speech from Kathryn and Chrissie just before dinner.

February 04th: After breakfast we take a shuttle of about 1:30 hours until the coastal city of Limon, in the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Here we start with our last ride again in flat terrain all with the Caribbean Sea at our left and lots of banana plantations at right. Total distance is 80 kilometers (50 miles) We finish at Cocles Beach, near to the touristic town of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, where we are going to enjoy the typical Caribbean dishes (Hotel: http://www.azania-costarica.com/ )
February 05th: Today is our day free to enjoy the beach and maybe sign up for some of assorted tours options in the area such as to Cahuita or Manzanillo National Park, snorkeling tours, horseback riding, and others. After lunch we take the shuttle back to San Jose. (Hotel: Orquideas INN)
February 06th: Breakfast and shuttle to the airport!
Optional activities/Tours:
We have selected some extra activities/tours just in case you might be interested to get the most of your days in Costa Rica:
February 01st: You can sign up for a Stand Up Paddle surf lesson. No previous experience required! This tour is from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
February 02nd: For those with some energy after today training session there’s one option to visit La Fortuna Waterfall. Our van provides you transfer at 2:00 PM (just after lunch) and waits for you at 4:30 PM for the shuttle to the Hot Springs. You need to pay the entry fee to the Waterfall.
February 05th: This day you can sign up for a zipline tour in the Caribbean forest. Other options available are snorkeling or horseback riding tour in the beach.
None of these tours/activities are included in the price of the Training Camp; you should sign up separately once you arrive to Costa Rica.
Cost: $1699 per person in double rooms all inclusive. Single occupancy option available with extra charge.

- 6 nights in shared double rooms in the hotels mentioned above (or similar) *single room option available for an extra fee

Arrival: We recommend you arrive by 2pm on Friday, January 31th, 2014.
Airport: Be sure to travel to SJO (San Jose, Costa Rica)
What to bring:
- Clean bicycle, tuned and ready to ride
- Helmet
- Jerseys at least 4 (short sleeve)
- Shorts at least 4 pair
- Wind Vest
- Base layer 1 or 2 lightweight
- Rain Jacket
- Socks
- Cycling gloves short finger
- Cycling Shoes/pedals
- Eyewear/sunglasses
- Chamois cream
- Small tote or backpack for anything you wish to keep in support vehicles.
- Heart Rate Monitor and/or Power Meter (Power Tap or SRM or other)
- Sunscreen
- Toiletries for clean up between rides.
- Needed clothes for spare time at the beach or at the end of each ride (don’t miss the swin suit)
- 12-27 or at least 12-25 cassette

Important: Chrissie’s presence is still in process to be confirmed. Although she is highly interested to become part of our Bikecr Training Camp again, she is currently checking her schedule.
As soon as she came back to us with a definitive answer we are going to announce her presence as confirmed.
If for any reason, unfortunately Chrissie is not able to join us this time, we are going to announce the name of the Triathlon Guest Star that is going to be hosting our Training Camp the next year!
Camp Cancellation Policy
Cancellation and General Policies: If you have to cancel for any reason, your fees depending on your cancellation date will not be refunded. Exceptions to this policy will not be made for any reason, including weather or personal emergencies and balances cannot be transferred.
61-90 days prior: Cancellation Fee of 50% of original camp price
31-60 days prior: Cancellation Fee of 75% of original camp price
0-30 days prior: Cancellation Fee of 100% of original camp price
